The Supreme Court of Montenegro, with the support of the AIRE Centre, has published their analysis of Montenegrin case law on trafficking in human beings. Part of an ongoing collaboration, this guide aims to empower current and future practitioners involved in the fight against human trafficking by providing a comprehensive analysis of national human trafficking case law; an overview of international and national law, standards and practice; a focus on Montenegro’s national framework for the protection of victims’ rights; and a series of recommendations for future progress.
Beyond providing a detailed insight into national case law, the guide’s unique overview of the state of play in Montenegro today will serve as a baseline for further research and comparative analyses of human trafficking in Montenegro and the wider Western Balkans region.
Trafficking in human beings is one of the gravest violations of human rights and an offence to the dignity and integrity of its victims: human beings who risk death, serious abuse and enslavement at the hands of their traffickers. The AIRE Centre and the Supreme Court of Montenegro are engaged in a three year project to tackle this issue and this report serves as a focused follow up to the partnership’s previous publication on human trafficking and the Montenegrin justice system published in 2019.
