The AIRE Centre to organise a round table for Montenegrin judges on the topic of Human Rights and Criminal Law, including a presentation on AIRE’s new guide on Article 5 ECHR
December 17, 2020

On 16-17 December 2020, the AIRE Centre Western Balkans Programme, in collaboration with the Supreme Court of Montenegro, will host a round table for Montenegrin judges on the topic of Human Rights and Criminal Law, taking into account the European Convention on Human Rights and relevant Montenegrin Law and Jurisprudence.

Areas for discussion will include: sentencing policy in Montenegro, the right to Liberty and Security in recent ECtHR case law, victims’ rights in criminal proceedings and the right to a reasoned decision in the context of Article 5 ECHR.

The event will also include a presentation of the AIRE Centre’s comprehensive guide on Article 5, the Right to Liberty and Security. The guide breaks down relevant jurisprudence of the ECtHR and includes analysis on how measures taken in response to the Covid-19 pandemic engage the provisions of Article 5.

Copies of the guide on Article 5 are available here.
